Learning, creating and living in Dals Långed
You may have already noticed whilst reading that many people come here to Dals Långed for their education. Dals Långed is not only a lovely base for excursions into the countryside, but also a special place to immerse oneself in design and craftsmanship.

At the Steneby Campus, two institutions come together:
- HDK-Valand, the University of Gothenburg’s School of Art and Design, offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in, amongst other things, metalwork and furniture design with a focus on wood. The ‘Crafting Futures’ Bachelor’s programme combines craftsmanship, knowledge of materials and an exploration of future societal issues. In addition, there are individual university courses for shorter study periods.
- Stenebyskolan complements this offering with preparatory courses in art and design, as well as vocational training programmes, for example in woodworking and cabinetmaking, textiles, clothing, jewellery design, furniture upholstery and furniture restoration.
Together, the workshops, exhibitions and the international student community shape life here in the village.
If you’re interested in this sort of training, please feel free to get in touch with us. We’ll help you explore the local opportunities and arrange a suitable combination of studying or attending courses whilst staying at Dalslands Studio. Applications and admissions are, of course, handled by the respective educational institution.
You can get an initial insight on the University of Gothenburg’s Steneby Campus page and by looking at the courses offered by Stenebyskolan.
Summer courses 2027 – get creative and stay with us

But it doesn’t have to be a full degree course straight away. Every summer, Stenebyskolan offers shorter courses – both for curious beginners and for people with experience in crafts or design. For the summer school running from 14 to 27 June 2027, we plan to take part by offering accommodation at Dalslands Studio. Details of which courses take place on which days will be announced in the new programme, which is due to be published in early December.
Until then, you can get an idea of what’s on offer by looking at previous programmes:
In 2026, the summer course programme ranged from furniture restoration and upholstery to silversmithing and pattern-making for your own trousers. A painting course took the plants, light and landscape of Dalsland as its starting point – depending on participants’ interests, they worked with watercolours, acrylics, oils or drawing materials.
In 2025, for example, the summer course on casting your own jewellery offered the chance to learn about sand and vacuum casting, create your own wax models and design small objects from silver, copper or bronze. Parts of plants could also serve as the basis for the moulds.
Trying out something new in the workshop during the day and then unwinding with us afterwards, sharing a meal or going for a walk by the water: That would be a lovely way to get to know Dals Långed and Dalsland in a different way. Not just as a visitor, but as part of this special place of learning and living for a while.
I’ll let you know the details and costs for taking part in the summer courses and accommodation costs as soon as the programme is published.
Find peace in the forest – a break at the Dalsland Studio

After my travels in October, I realised once again just how much the peace and quiet here means to me. Not having to keep moving on all the time. Letting my gaze rest on the water or going into the woods without feeling the need to cover a specific distance. This has also sparked an idea for the future of Dalslands Studio: you can stay with us to take time out for the woods and for yourselves.
I’d like to offer you a personal setting for this: a room in the studio, time to settle in, and the freedom to organise your days as you wish. A leisurely walk, a break amongst the trees, followed by a fika or a book. Perhaps you’ll bring a sketchpad with you; perhaps you’ll consciously leave behind everything that looks like a chore.
It’s important to me not to turn this time-out into yet another obligation. You don’t have to cover a specific distance, be particularly mindful, or report back on a profound experience afterwards. You’re simply allowed to be there.
Four nights at your own pace
There are two options to choose from for your stay: a midweek break from Monday to Friday or a long weekend from Thursday to Monday. Both include four nights’ accommodation and three full days during which you don’t have to plan anything.
On your arrival, I’ll welcome you personally and point out walking routes and peaceful spots in the surrounding area. After that, you decide for yourselves what does you good. Perhaps you’ll go to the same place every day and observe what changes. Perhaps you’d like to spend time outdoors and then write or draw. An afternoon in the studio is, of course, also part of the experience.
If you’re looking for a chat, you’re welcome to strike up a conversation. If you need some peace and quiet, you’re free to retreat. There’s no compulsory group programme.
Accommodation and meals

The same prices apply to both periods:
| Accommodation for four nights | Price per person, including breakfast |
|---|---|
| Single room for one person | 368 € |
| Double room for two people | 264 € |
The double room costs a total of €528 for two people for four nights.
For additional meals, the communal kitchen is available for self-catering. You can also book meals by prior arrangement. If you wish to cater for yourselves entirely and do without breakfast, we will provide you with a tailored quote. We will clarify any meal requirements and costs before booking.

Time for yourselves – with no set programme
This offer is aimed at people who wish to spend time in nature independently and are looking for a personal base from which to do so. It is not a guided forest bathing course, nor is it a therapeutic treatment.
You can come alone, as a couple or in a small group. We’ll discuss in advance what you’d like to get out of your stay and what you’ll need to make that happen.
If this type of stay appeals to you, please email me at office@dalslands-studio.eu with your preferred dates, the number of people, and your room and meal requirements. Bookings are subject to availability and individual arrangement; the booking and cancellation terms published on our website apply.
This is your chance to get to know Dalsland without a sightseeing itinerary. It’s not about seeing as much as possible, but about having the time to stay in one place.
