Our wonderful house!
On our travels in Sweden, we have often come across houses that are comparatively simply furnished and also function simply and have always found this to be central to what we were looking for and found on our travels. Especially in houses that are a little older and have a story to tell. We will hold meetings and seminars in such a house, which – regardless of the topic – will always be characterised by this place and its surroundings. However, we will live much more luxuriously in this house than people did in the past. Until well into the last century, a communal shower was used by the entire neighbourhood, and in the past there were also communal toilets housed in a kind of earth cellar (which exists even today). Until 2014, four families lived here, each in a room with a kitchen. At the end of the 19th century, 54 people lived in a similarly sized house in the neighbourhood. And that was without a shower and with outside toilets.
The guest area is located on the upper floor, where there are four rooms that can be used as double rooms and a large communal area with a balcony overlooking the inner courtyard. In addition to the existing bathroom, we are planning to install two more toilets and a kitchenette. We will certainly refurnish the guest area and the rooms, but will keep everything in the old Swedish style that is largely present. Our flat and the seminar area with a communal kitchen are located on the lower floor. There is also another bathroom. The seminar area consists of three rooms, which are connected by wide passageways and almost look like one. We want to make one of these rooms separable with a sliding door so that it can be used as a guest room if required. To this end, it will have a small bathroom in its external extension.
